Programme description

New programme in 2026/27 academic year

Linguistics and Language Technologies is a modern first-cycle programme for students who want to work professionally with language in the context of new technologies. The programme combines the study of Polish, English and a second foreign language with knowledge of intercultural communication, text analysis and digital tools used in the language services industry. Students learn not only how to create and interpret content in multiple languages, but also how to search for, verify and process information in a digital environment.

A key component of the programme is its practical orientation towards work in the dynamically developing language services sector. The curriculum includes translation support technologies, artificial intelligence tools, content localisation, work with multimedia materials and linguistic data management. As a result, students acquire competencies sought after by companies producing digital content, as well as by organisations in the media, marketing, publishing, and the games and applications industries.

The programme has an interdisciplinary and international character—some courses are taught in English, and the curriculum reflects the realities of the global labour market. A mandatory professional internship and close cooperation with industry partners ensure that graduates are well prepared to start their careers or to continue their education at the Master’s level, for example in translation studies, applied linguistics or intercultural communication.

Student’s life

Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations operate at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences, and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are more than 20 students’ academic associations at the Faculty of Philology. Academic Association of the Chair for Translation Studies Students’ is one of them and it gathers students interested in academic development as regards various types of translations. The most interesting translations – prepared during specialisation classes, translator and ethnographic events or within contests organised by the Chair – are published in the journal “Zeszyty Tłumaczeniowe / Translation Collections” issued by the Chair. Students also have the possibility to participate in national and international translator projects.

Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, Utrecht Network, bilateral exchange programmes, European university Una Europa, or the domestic mobility programme called MOST.
