Programme description

Are you not sure what to choose? Mathematics? Or maybe Computer Science? Do not hesitate! Computer Mathematics is a new study programme based on the crossing of mathematics and computer science. It is designed for those who are interested in both fields of study. The study programme provides knowledge concerning the application of the increasing computer power in solving mathematical problems, i.a. in modern industry. This study programme is more computer science-oriented than Applied Mathematics, more mathematics-oriented than Computer Science and more practice-oriented than Theoretical Mathematics. There are still very few computer scientists with advanced mathematical skills as well as mathematics who are experts in programming, although they are very needed.

Student’s life

Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations work at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are four students' academic societies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, i.a. Society of Computer Science Students and the Society of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Students organise conferences, workshops (including workshops aiming at supporting students who start their education at our faculty), mountain tours, movie evenings, concerts, as well as board games contests.

The best students may apply for being granted the Dean's Fund for Olympics as well as scholarship and tutoring under the SciMat project. Outstanding students of foreign high schools may apply for the Mertens Scholarship. Outstanding students (particularly those who were granted the Mertens scholarship or the Dean’s Fund) have a tutor commencing from the first year of study. Students interested in academic research may prepare scientific papers under the supervision of a tutor, starting from the first year of the study programme.

Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes such as Erasmus+, Utrecht Network, exchange programmes within Bilateral Agreements or European university Una Europa, or participate in a domestic mobility programme called MOST.

More than just studies
