Studia strategiczne nad Azją to studia specjalistyczne w zakresie problematyki międzynarodowej, bezpieczeństwa i gospodarki w Azji, w ramach których część zajęć jest prowadzona przez ekspertów-praktyków, a istotnym elementem procesu dydaktycznego jest nauka jednego z czterech języków orientalnych, tj. arabskiego, chińskiego, japońskiego i koreańskiego.

Podczas nauki osoby studiujące zapoznają się m.in. z problematyką międzynarodowych stosunków politycznych i problemów strategicznych, a także międzynarodowych stosunków gospodarczych i problemów rozwojowych w Azji, co zostanie poszerzone o przedmioty specjalistyczne, które obejmują zagadnienia związane z bezpieczeństwem (militarnym, energetycznym, ekologicznym), migracjami międzynarodowymi, mediami i cyberbezpieczeństwem, procesami integracji regionalnej w Azji tudzież kwestiami związanymi z funkcjonowaniem przedsiębiorstw w Azji. Studenci i studentki zdobywają wiedzę na temat sporządzania raportów oraz artykułów naukowych, poznają procesy decyzyjne i funkcjonowania zarówno instytucji rządowych związanych z polityką zagraniczną i bezpieczeństwa, jak również organizacji międzynarodowych, think-tanków oraz przedsiębiorstw zaangażowanych w biznes z partnerami azjatyckimi.

Information regarding Faculty

The Faculty of International and Political Studies has the A category granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and was awarded for the quality of education by the Polish Accreditation Committee. The Faculty is the most international and interdisciplinary unit at the Jagiellonian University. It offers unique programmes conducted in English, many of which are delivered under agreements with foreign universities. The Faculty provides students with an opportunity to study in a nationally and culturally diverse environment, both in Polish and foreign languages. This creates the space for getting to know each other and supports students' development during their studies and in their professional careers. The Faculty’s complex structure reflects the diversity of scientific research conducted in this unit. Therefore, students have an opportunity to study among specialists dealing with matters from almost every corner of the globe.

Strategic Studies on Asia are conducted by the Institute of the Middle and Far East in a newly renovated building at ul. Oleandry 2a. The Institute is surrounded by green areas like Błonia Park and Jordan Park, near the Jagiellonian Library. It has modern teaching equipment with comfortable conditions. The Institute of the Middle and Far East is the leading Polish centre for studies on contemporary societies. The Institute operates the first and largest Confucius Institute in Poland, as well as the Taiwan Research Centre.

Curriculum overview

Programme curriculum consists of information regarding classes in which you will take part while studying at this field of study. The programme provides data on classes in particular semesters, which of them are compulsory or optional, which of them end with an exam, and which do not. Each class has its own syllabus – a description of contents of the class.

Student’s life

Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations operate at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences, and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are many student associations at the Faculty of International and Political Studies, f. e. Far East Research Group and Middle East Research Group.

Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, CEEPUS, Utrecht Network, bilateral exchange programmes, European university Una Europa, or the domestic mobility programme called MOST.

Transfer from other university or study programme

Transfer from other university or other study programme is possible, with the consent of the dean: after finishing a first year of studies and fulfilling additional conditions described by the Faculty Council. W Polsce istnieje duże zapotrzebowanie na wykształconych specjalistów zajmujących się problematyką polityczną i gospodarczą w Azji. Możliwości uczestnictwa w rynku pracy są coraz większe ze względu na rosnące kontakty polskich instytucji i firm z przedsiębiorstwami i instytucjami ulokowanymi w krajach azjatyckich Bliskiego i Dalekiego Wschodu, jak również tymi, które mają regularne kontakty z podmiotami polskimi i europejskimi. Wpływa to na zwiększenie zapotrzebowania na pracowników i pracownice mających pogłębioną wiedzę nad współczesną Azją (z zakresu stosunków międzynarodowych, bezpieczeństwa i działalności gospodarczej) z podstawowymi kompetencjami obejmującymi rzeczywiste funkcjonowanie instytucji państwowych, organizacji międzynarodowych oraz gospodarek w Azji, jak również umiejętnościami komunikacyjnymi, w tym z komunikatywną znajomością jednego z języków orientalnych (arabskiego, chińskiego, japońskiego, koreańskiego). Absolwenci i absolwentki studiów strategicznych nad Azją będą posiadać te umiejętności, dzięki którym łatwiej im będzie znaleźć pracę w firmach operujących na rynkach azjatyckich, w instytucjach państwa polskiego, takich jak dyplomacja i inne podmioty rządowe (m.in. wojsko czy służby specjalne), a także organizacje międzynarodowe zajmujące się kwestiami o znaczeniu strategicznym dla Polski i Europy (UE,ONZ, NATO).
