In connection with the above, professional preparation of students takes place through workshops (e.g. press, radio, television, sound and image editing, ombudsman's workshop, etc.); design workshops – enabling students to work on their creative projects (e.g. information technologies, designing communication on the Internet, etc.) and adapting the formula of academic classes to the needs of professional preparation of students. Students undergo obligatory student internships in media of their choice, advertising or PR institutions during their studies, and the Student Internship Supervisor can help them choose the right place.

Student’s life

Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations operate at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences, and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are many student research groups at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication. Journalism and Social Communication students have unique opportunities to further improve their competencies and practical skills by participating in many projects organised by institutes and faculties. They form the core of the university radio UJOT FM editorial team, the Faculty television UJOT TV, participate in the organisation of the nationwide student plebiscite for the best journalists of the "MediaTory" and the national photographic competition "Głębia Spojrzenia".

Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, Utrecht Network, bilateral exchange programmes, European university Una Europa, or the domestic mobility programme called MOST.

More than just studies

From our students

Bartłomiej: in the ether like a fish in water Bartłomiej: in the ether like a fish in water
After starting it, I learned the actual value of studying at Jagiellonian University. I have lecturers with whom I get along very well and are real media professionals. I feel like I'm part of the academic community; it's essential. Bartlomiej currently spends most of his time on UJOT FM radio.

From our lecturers

Dr Małgorzata Majewska Dr Małgorzata Majewska
People are discovering more and more that they are no longer needed, that machines can replace them. At the same time, it is the time of media power, post-truth and fake news. The only defence against this madness is knowledge, that is, awareness of how the world works. And the university is precisely the place where we break down the mechanisms of reality into the prime factors.

What alumni say about us

Alumni Stories: Krystian Pomorski Alumni Stories: Krystian Pomorski
I (...) have very fond memories of the journalistic press workshop, where we discussed current events in the media, politics and economy. At university we were also taught to verify all the information. And this skill comes in handy not only in my everyday life, but also in business. It was a fantastic three years that defined my further life choices.
