Programme description
Would you like to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to resolve critical public problems (in administration, economy, healthcare, education, culture, social issues, security, transport, etc.) valued in the labour market? If your answer is "yes", then Public Management is the right choice! The proposed set of courses gives a solid basis for various professional and management roles and, at the same time, great possibilities for flexible shaping of future career.
Students may participate in the virtual laboratory for co-creation and open innovations (V-Lab) of the Institute of Public Affairs of the Jagiellonian University, which engages communities of researchers, students and doctoral students to create solutions for crucial social or organisational problems. Second-cycle studies students may obtain the IPMA (International Project Management Association) Student certificate
Information regarding Faculty
The Faculty of Management and Social Communication has the A category granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and was honoured for education by the State Accreditation Committee. The variety of fields of studies conducted by the faculty makes this unit one of the best interdisciplinary faculties of the JU.
The premises of the Faculty of Management and Social Communication are located on the territory of the Campus of the 600th Anniversary of the JU Revival. The faculty is located in a modern building that consists of well equipped lecture halls, classes and computer rooms. Studies at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication are known for: exceptional research and didactic staff; unique fields of studies and original study programmes not available at other Polish universities; possibility to get a double degree thank to agreements with European universities; collaboration with the business sector; comfortable conditions for studying surrounded by the beautiful and green campus, UJOT TV television and UJOT.FM radio; various research societies which reflect the versatility of research conducted at the faculty and its didactic offer. The study programme is offered by the Institute of Public Affairs, which is a part of the Faculty of Management and Social Communication. Institute's main aim is to research the scope of the functioning of the public sphere and education of managers for the public and non-governmental sector in Poland and collaborate with municipal, regional and ministerial authorities and civic organisations that support the modernising public industry. Students have access to the modern library of the faculty the book collection is of which is constantly supplied with the newest books (in Polish and English).

Student’s life
Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations operate at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences, and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are many student research groups at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication such as FOCUS and MERITUM. Students may participate in the Institute of Public Affairs virtual laboratory, which engages the university's community and our partners to work on solutions to crucial social and organisational problems.
Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, Utrecht Network, bilateral exchange programmes, European university Una Europa, or the domestic mobility programme called MOST.

Graduates
Graduates of Public Management are officials and managers in national and international public organisations (including government and local administration units and state-owned companies), political advisers, consultants, lobbyists and project leaders. Companies and NGOs value their skills and competencies. Many decide to open their own company thanks to their studies in Public Management. Check where graduates of Public Management work:
- Manager or specialist at public or non-profit organisations (e.g., housing, security, healthcare, culture, education, human rights or transport) who provides integrated and tailored services for residents.
- Manager or official in government and local administration units.
- Manager or member of a project team who manages the development of major public projects (e.g., construction of a new section of a road, creation of a new train connection, implementation of a new system or hydraulic engineering project, implementation of a new IT solution for remote providing of services for residents).
- Researcher of analyst studying complex social challenges in the public sector and managing these challenges to develop public organisations.
- An official working on plans such as a new land planning scheme or a neighbourhood's revitalisation. This position requires the cooperation skills of public administration, private companies and residents.
Policy advisor or consultant who advises and helps to implement solutions to complex public and social problems (e.g., security system in a city, region or country, vulnerable people care system, changes in the functioning of healthcare, development of ecological programmes, development of entrepreneurship and innovations, strategies of emerging from the crisis, risk management systems).

Offer for school
The following events are conducted in Polish – to find out about the offer for English-speaking audience, please get in touch with the organizer directly. Additionally, due to the current pandemic, some faculty and university events may be canceled or conducted in a form other than that described below.
We invite all schools to a series of meetings, "University Closer to you – trips to the Jagiellonian University." The purpose of the sessions as part of the tours is to familiarize students with our university's history through a broad educational offer (lectures, workshops, laboratory classes, etc.). The current program of the event is available on the organizer's website - Centre for Communications and Marketing.
The Jagiellonian Library allows you to visit the old and new parts of the building. The tour program includes presentations of information about the history of the Library and the building itself and a tour of the Warehouse Department. The offer of Collegium Maius consists of the "Traces of science" and "Traces of history and art" lessons as well as interactive online classes. We also invite you to familiarize yourself with the educational offer of: the Botanic Garden, the Nature Education Center, the Confucius Institute, and the Museum of the Department of Anatomy UJ CM.
