Programme description

Management in Tourism and Sport programme responds to the growing complexity, variability and competitiveness of modern tourism and sports markets. These demanding conditions require competent, flexible, creative and ready-to-work employees and managers who are familiar with modern technologies and understand the changing expectations of the 21st. century's clients and challenges of the economy based on knowledge. The programme combines practice with management theory in the context of specific conditions of tourism and sport and is a response to the requirements of the labour market. Academic teachers and experts in business conduct courses. Thanks to that, our students receive multifaceted support in realising the study programme, their ventures, and their motivation to develop their passions. This is a unique programme at the Jagiellonian University in Poland and Europe.

The study programme is divided into semesters. The first semester consists of only required courses for all students of this programme. The programme includes main routes in the area of management and quality sciences and economic sciences. The introductory course is called Free time industries. It provides content regarding the functioning of tourism and sports markets and creative industries. At the beginning of the second semester, students chose a specialisation: Management in tourism or Management in sport. From now on, a part of obligatory and optional courses is conducted for all students, and another part is designed only for the chosen specialisation.

Information regarding Faculty

The Faculty of Management and Social Communication has the category A granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and outstanding rating awarded by the Polish Accreditation Committee (PKA). The variety of study programmes conducted by the Faculty makes this unit one of the best interdisciplinary faculties of the Jagiellonian University.

The premises of the Faculty of Management and Social Communication are located on the territory of the Campus of the 600th Anniversary of the JU Revival. The Faculty is located in a modern building that consists of well equipped lecture halls, classes and computer rooms. Study programmes at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication are known for: exceptional research and didactic staff; unique fields of studies and original study programmes not available at other Polish universities; possibility to get a double degree thank to agreements with European universities; collaboration with the business sector; comfortable conditions for studying surrounded by the beautiful and green campus, UJOT TV television and UJOT.FM radio; various research societies which reflect the versatility of research conducted at the Faculty and its didactic offer. Classes are taught in the Institute of Entrepreneurship, a unit of the Faculty of Management and Social Communication. The educational activity of the Institute includes training managers for the tourism, sport, public and new media sectors and is focused on creating an entrepreneurial mindset. Students have access to the modern library of the faculty the book collection is of which is constantly supplied with the newest books (in Polish and English).

Student’s life

Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations operate at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences, and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are many student research groups at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication.

Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, Utrecht Network, bilateral exchange programmes, European university Una Europa, or the domestic mobility programme called MOST.

Graduates

Graduates of Management in sport specialisation are ready to work:

  • on specialised positions at various organisations involving sports (e.g., sports clubs and federations, national and local authorities involving sports, commercial organisations promoting sports or selling products and services) such as marketing and promotion manager of a club or sports association, product manager, team manager, head of an office, section manager, spokesman, manager of a soccer school/fitness club
  • also, in other management positions at organisations in different sectors of the economy, thanks to general and universal management knowledge,
  • as entrepreneurs in various sectors.

Graduates of Management in tourism specialisation are ready to work:

  • at organisations from the tourism market (e.g., hospitality, transport, recreation, gastronomy, event organisation, region promotion), in specialised positions such as sales manager, travel sales agent, critical account specialist, tourism and marketing specialist, tourism manager, marketing specialist, customer service manager, tourism product manager, travel manager, tourism advisor, tours coordinator,
  • also, in other management positions at companies of different sectors, thanks to general and universal management knowledge
  • as entrepreneurs in various sectors.
