Programme description

New programme in 2026/27 academic year

Digital Humanities is an interdisciplinary second-cycle (MA) programme designed for those who wish to combine a humanist’s sensitivity with analytical and technological competences. The curriculum integrates linguistics and literary studies with data processing tools, text analysis, programming, and the design of digital solutions for culture and research. Students learn how to study, interpret, and make cultural resources accessible in digital environments – from large text corpora to multimedia archives.

Courses are based on current research projects conducted by teams of humanists and computer scientists at Jagiellonian University. As a result, students gain both a solid foundation in the humanities and practical skills in working with digital tools – from building databases and preparing digital editions to language and text analysis. The programme is continuously updated to reflect the dynamic changes in technology, communication practices, and the functioning of culture in the contemporary world.

The programme has a strong project-based character – students participate in real research initiatives, co-create digital archives, tools, and online editions, and develop their own projects. They also explore modern methods of data visualisation, interface design, and computational text analysis. Graduates are therefore well prepared to work in interdisciplinary teams operating at the intersection of research, technology, and the creative sector, and to address the challenges of cultural digitisation, the development of artificial intelligence, and the evolving labour market.

Student’s life

Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations operate at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences, and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are more than 20 students’ academic associations at the Faculty of Philology.

Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, Utrecht Network, bilateral exchange programmes, European university Una Europa, or the domestic mobility programme called MOST.

More than just studies
