Programme description

Public Policy and Management is a unique master’s programme that combines public policy theory with modern management tools. The programme prepares students to effectively design and implement public policies at both national and international levels, offering an interdisciplinary approach that integrates political science, law, economics, and management. The studies are conducted in English and delivered in a modern hybrid learning model, with 75% of classes held online, allowing for study in an international environment and flexible adaptation to students’ individual needs.

The programme offers a unique combination of academic knowledge with practical analytical and decision-making skills. Students develop competencies in public resource management, analysis of social and political issues, and the application of modern technologies in decision-making processes, including artificial intelligence and big data analysis. Through collaboration with international experts and the use of innovative teaching methods, graduates are well-prepared to tackle contemporary global challenges and shape the future of public policy.

Information regarding Faculty

The Faculty of Management and Social Communication is located on the 600th Anniversary Campus of the Jagiellonian University. The Faculty's headquarters is a modern building equipped with state-of-the-art lecture halls, seminar rooms, and computer labs. The diversity of programmes offered by the Faculty makes it one of the most interdisciplinary units at the Jagiellonian University. Studying at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication means: outstanding academic staff, unique degree programmes that are not available at other universities in Poland, the opportunity to obtain double degrees in cooperation with European universities, collaboration with businesses, comfortable learning conditions in a beautiful, green campus setting, access to UJOT.TV Student Television and UJOT.FM Student Radio, and numerous student research clubs reflecting the broad scope of research topics and the Faculty’s diverse academic offer.

Courses in the Public Policy and Management programme are conducted at the Institute of Public Affairs. The primary mission of the Institute is to conduct scientific research on the functioning of the public sphere and to educate managers for the public and non-governmental sectors in Poland. The Institute cooperates with municipal, regional, and governmental authorities as well as civic organizations supporting the modernization of the public sector. Students have access to a modern Faculty Library, which is regularly updated with the latest publications in both Polish and English.

Curriculum overview

In the programme curriculum, you may find information about the subjects you will attend while studying this programme. The programme indicates which subjects are scheduled for each semester of the studies, which are mandatory, which belong to the group of elective subjects (so-called optional subjects), which of them end with an exam, and which do not. Each subject in such a programme curriculum has its syllabus, which is a description of what students learn within the scope of that subject.

Student’s life

Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations operate at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences, and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are many student research groups at the Faculty of Management and Social Communication such as FOCUS and MERITUM. Students may participate in the Institute of Public Affairs virtual laboratory, which engages the university's community and our partners to work on solutions to crucial social and organisational problems.

Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, Utrecht Network, bilateral exchange programmes, European university Una Europa, or the domestic mobility programme called MOST.

Transfer from other university or study programme

Transfer from another university, including a foreign one, or change of study programme within the University is possible with the dean's consent after completing the first year of studies and fulfilling additional requirements established by the Faculty Council. For inquiries regarding transfer, please contact the unit responsible for the specific study programme directly.

Graduates

Graduates of the Public Policy and Management programme will acquire interdisciplinary knowledge in public policy, management, law, and economics. They will be able to analyze and design effective public policies, manage public resources, and make strategic decisions in the dynamic environment of public administration and the public sector. They will develop skills in data analysis, the use of modern technologies (including AI and big data) in management, as well as effective communication and negotiation in an international setting.

Graduates will find employment in public administration, international organizations, think tanks, research institutes, consulting firms, and the private sector, where public policy influences business strategies. They may work as policy analysts, government advisors, public strategy specialists, managers in non-governmental organizations, and experts in regional development and international cooperation.
