Programme description

Pedagogical studies broaden horizons, deepen self-awareness and teach relationships with other people. They combine knowledge regarding pedagogy, psychology, sociology, and philosophy. The Pre-School and Early School Pedagogy study programme meets two basic needs: the need of the labour market and the need to radically improve education quality at teacher education programmes. The programme is original and arises from an in-depth analysis of theory and research as regards teachers conducted in recent decades in Poland and worldwide, concerning particularly the humanistic course in the area of future teacher education as well as constructivism course in the area of preparing a techer to work in preschool and school.

The Institute’s Pedagogical Counselling provides psychological, pedagogical and legal support as well as mediation consultations. It helps in meeting educational and professional challenges as well as  finding oneself in difficult (new) life situations.

Student’s life

Time spent at the university is not all about education and class participation; it is also an excellent opportunity to develop hobbies and interests. Many research societies and student organizations operate at the Jagiellonian University, including faculty- and university-wide ones. These societies allow students to spend their free time actively, gain knowledge, develop their talents, participate in engaging, unconventional projects, go on research and team-building trips, participate in conferences, and meet fellow students outside the lecture halls. There are many student associations at the Faculty of Philosophy.

Students interested in the international dimension of studying can participate in a wide variety of exchange programmes, such as Erasmus+, Utrecht Network, bilateral exchange programmes, European university Una Europa, or the domestic mobility programme called MOST.

Graduates

The analysis of the changing labour market situation shows a huge demand for graduates of pedagogy holding qualifications to teach in preschools and grades 1-3 of primary schools. The above is related to the rapid growth in a number of public and non-public preschools, which meets the recorded demographic change in Poland.

The programme curriculum of Pre-School and Early School Pedagogy is original. However, it fully complies with the current legal regulations regarding the qualifications required for employment in the position of a teacher in preschool or teacher in grades 1-3 in a primary school. Particularly the curriculum is compliant with the standard for education preparing for pursuing the teacher profession, introduced by the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. During the course of studies, the graduate obtains all the qualifications required by law.
